Helping Utah girls discover their pathway in tech careers

Salt Lake City, Utah – March 1st, 2022, TestOut was invited to exhibit at SheTech Explorer Day to take part in helping high school girls learn more about exciting careers in technology. The event included role models, tech companies, and mentors to help girls see who they can become.

Approximately 1,500 girls attended this year’s conference, hosted by industry leaders in the Women’s Tech Council. Also in attendance was Utah Governor Spencer Cox.

TestOut, out of Pleasant Grove, Utah, is a digital curriculum, simulation, and certification provider that is passionate about helping students learn and practice technology in a way that’s immersive, hands-on, and enjoyable.

Michelle Tullis, Product Marketing Manager at TestOut, got to bring along her daughters and a bus load of Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy students to this year’s SheTech: “I work in the tech industry, and to be able to bring my two daughters with me was a special moment. I am passionate about helping girls understand that technology is exciting and that there are thousands of open jobs out there with great benefits for women.”

At the event, TestOut provided hundreds of girls with a chance to learn about the different information technology careers and explore videos of real-world professionals, including women, discussing why they like their careers.

The keynote speaker, Governor Spencer Cox, gave inspiring words: “We need more women to participate in tech. Thank you for coming today. It could be life changing. I hope you find the path that is right for you, an exciting path that will make your life better for years to come.”

After his address and words from SheTech founder Cyd Tetro, TestOut showcased their breakthrough online technology that simulates cutting-edge cybersecurity tools, mobile technologies, and develops in-demand job skills.

In addition, TestOut announced for the first time at SheTech their new Digital Literacy Pro course in development. This course is designed for anyone — from middle schools and high schools to universities and adult learners — who would benefit from learning essential skills and concepts in an engaging, hands-on way.

What will make this course unique is its strong focus on supporting teachers, so that no matter their tech background or teaching load, they’ll be able to help more girls get into tech careers by providing real-world training in a way few new learners have had access to in the past.
